Video Games have always drawn inspiration from everything whether it is real life incidents influencing the call of duty series or it sports games inspired from (obviously) sports. One such big influence is the influence of mythology on games. Mythology has always intrigued the common man and what is better than living it through the world of games. That is what all the video games do best. They take us away from reality giving us the escape that we need.So today we’ll be looking at the most famous games that have been inspired from Mythology whether the story or the characters. So today we’ll be talking about famous games that have been influenced or have been based on Mythology.

5. Age of Mythology

Age of Mythology is a real time strategy game developed by Ensemble Studios. The game is a twist to the popular game Age of Empires. The game features defeating enemies and gaining towns while you guard the towns that are already yours. It was very well received and sold over 870,000 copies in the first 4 years of release.

4. Smite

Smite is a third person Multiplayer Online Battle Arena(MOBA). Developed and published by Hi-Rez Studios, the game was released in 2014 for Windows. This Mythology games features various modes which have player vs player battle. The mythological connection is the character the game features. You have many options to become either God or Goddesses. It also features a Team vs Team Mode. The game has a huge following and that can easily be attributed to the attractiveness that the character poses. Different Gods having different abilities, who isn’t curious about that.

3. Asura’s Wrath

This Mythology games belongs to the action genre. Developed by CyberConnect and Published by Capcom, the maker of the very popular game Street Fighter. The game is available on PS3 and XBox 360. The Mythology game Asura’s Wrath follows the story of a mythological character Asura who seeks revenge on demigods who betrayed him. The game takes a lot of influence from Hindu and Buddhist Mythologies.

Now this is a game everyone knows about. I remember fond memories of playing the game on my PS2 in the summer break. The God of War is one of the best examples of games that have been influenced by mythology. The first era of God of War is based on Greek mythology while the other one’s story is adapted from Norse Mythology.

1. Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s Creed has always been connected to mythology. Especially Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The story of Odyssey is based in ancient Greece, further the game includes the addition of various Mythological elements, such as Mount Olympus, statue of Hercules etc.

This is also what makes it such a nice game to play. The mythology with the amazing Gameplay Assassin’s Creed always has the game has you stuck to it for hours.
