Google recently acquired Montreal based Typhoon studios to add to its list of owned companies. Google has been in the market for game studios for quite some time now, owing to consumer interest for its Stadia based game streaming platform.
The latest addition, Tyhpoon studios is a relatively new studio which currently has 26 employees under its name. Found nearly three years ago, the studio is yet to release its first title. Their first upcoming game “Journey to the Savage Planet” will be released on 28th January 2020.
The studio launched in 2017 had its originating members and employees with loads of AAA game development experience. The co-founders Reid Schneider and Alex Hutchinson are known as veterans of the field, while Schneider has been a senior producer on the original Splinter cell as well as executive producer on Batman: Arkham Knight. Hutchinson. He was also the lead designer for The Sims 2 and Spore, and creative director for Assassin’s Creed III and Far Cry 4.
The game is being developed for “multiple platforms” and is currently in its last stages of editing. Fans excited to try the game can be sure that the game will not alter into a Stadia exclusive at the last second.
The studio will join the present Stadia team in Canada which is being led by former Ubisoft executive Sébastien Puel.
Google, surprisingly has been fairly open and vocal about its internal development efforts. Which includes Stadia Studios led by Jade Raymond, former EA executive. The executive in an recent interview with Games industrybiz revealed that Google was looking out to build multiple first party studios. The idea behind the decision was to release content as soon as possible on the platform.
Raymond in his interview said, “We have a plan that includes building out a few different first-party studios. And also building up the publishing org to ship exclusive content created by indie devs and other external partners,”
