What happened in the Rocket League Spring Series 2020?

The Rocket League Spring Series is an esports tournament/series by Psyonix, the developer of the game Rocket League. 

The series was held online during the lockdown time of COVID-19 in 4 different regions Europe, North America, South America and Oceania. The Europe Series was even broadcasted by BBC Sports on their website and app. With all the sports being totally shut down, esports have been having much more attention from the traditional Sport companies.

How did Rocket League Spring Series worked?

In total 8 teams participated in the series. 4 of Them were invited from the  RLCS Season 9 Regional Championship and the other 4 qualified from the open qualifier in all the 4 different regions. 

The 8 teams then fought in a double elimination bracket where the 4 invited teams were preferentially seeded. All the matches in the rounds were Best of 5 but the Winner Bracket’s Finals, Loser Bracket’s finals and the Grand Finale were Best of 7. 

The tournaments featured big Prize Pools.

  • Europe: $125,000
  • North America: $125,000
  • Oceania: $50,000
  • South America: $50,000

Also the tournaments were held on different dates in different regions.

  • South America: Open Qualifiers on April 14-15, Spring Series on April 18-19
  • North America: Open Qualifiers on April 21-22, Spring Series on April 25-26
  • Oceania: Open Qualifiers on April 28-29, Spring Series on May 2-3
  • Europe: Open Qualifiers on May 5-6, Spring Series on May 9-10

The winners of the respective regions of Rocket League Spring Series were

  • South America – Avidity Sports
  • North America – G2 Sports
  • Oceania – Renegades
  • Europe – Renault Vitality

Rocket league on it’s official twitter account tweeted this as well on 11th when the Grand finale of the last region ended.
