Everything you need to know right now : Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC(2019)

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC is a video game developed by Respawn Entertainment and released starting November 15, 2019 by Electronic Arts. The game is set between the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, tells the story of a Jedi padawan named Cal Kestis on the run from the Galactic Empire.

Storyline

Five years after the Purge and the rise of the Galactic Empire, ex-Padawan Jedi Cal Kestis hides on the planet Bracca, where he works as a scrapper dismantling ships from the Clone Wars and hiding his skills in the Force. After being taken over by an Imperial Probe droid while using the Force to save his friend Prauf, two Inquisitors known as the Second Sister and the Ninth Sister are sent to investigate the planet.

When Prauf is killed by the Second Sister for openly gossiping about the Empire, Cal escapes, briefly facing the Inquisitor in a duel only to be saved by former Jedi Knight Cere Junda and his colleague, the pilot Greez Dritus. , aboard their ship, the Mantis.

Cere takes Cal to the planet Bogano in hopes that he will gain access to an ancient crypt. Along the way, Cal meets and befriends a small exploration droid called BD-1, who shows him a recorded message from Jedi Master Eno Cordova, who reveals that the crypt was built by the ancient civilization of the Zeffo and that al Cordova himself has hidden a Jedi Holocron containing the list of all Force-sensitive children in the Galaxy.

Cere believes this list can be used to rebuild the Jedi Order, but the only way to access the crypt is to follow the path of Córdoba. Cal then heads to the homeworld of the Zeffo and explores an ancient temple, being directed by another recording to an old friend from Córdoba, tribal chief Wookiee Tarfful. On the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, Cal meets notorious extremist rebel Saw Gerrera, who helps free numerous enslaved Wookiees from the Empire.

Gameplay

The discontinuity in the style of play certainly does not favor the general gameplay, but it does help to increase the Metroidvania-style elements present in the game that push the player to return to each explored planet as he acquires new skills. This practice allows you to obtain rare items and acquire special skills in the use of force.

Many of the details hidden in the worlds and the context studied ad hoc will make the fans of the saga happy, even if, given the great presence of these elements, there is a risk that the game dynamics can be excessively artificial for those unfamiliar with the story. . Among other things, the upgrades seem to be more oriented towards the cosmetic part of the characters rather than the actual improvement of the character’s abilities. A particular fighting skill would certainly be more appreciated than a pink lightsaber or an extravagant hairstyle for our hero.

The game is viewed in the third person and players exclusively control Cal. He fights only with his lightsaber, only in certain missions it is possible to use certain weapons temporarily. The style of play is a mix between Metrodvania, Soulslike, the Open-World with a series of puzzles to solve. During the adventure it is possible to travel aboard the Mantis spaceship and visit certain planets and explore them freely, however some areas can only be unlocked by acquiring a Force skill that unlocks as you continue with the plot.

Cal has a skill tree that he can unlock by using skill points he will earn as he defeats enemies. To access the tree he must enter the circle of meditation where he can regenerate health and rest.

Cal as a weapon has a lightsaber that he can modify during the adventure by recovering certain pieces that he will find BD-1 in the chests. He will be able to modify the hilt, the material and even the color of the lightsaber. Also you can transform the double-bladed lightsaber like Darth Maul. BD-1, the droid who will always accompany him, will show him the areas of the map and will unlock certain passages if he is upgraded. The explorable planets featured in the game are Bogano, Zeffo, Dathomir, Kashyyk and Illum.

As you progress through the storyline, Cal will unlock Force powers that allow him to run on walls, double jump, slow down or attract objects and enemies, and hurl shockwaves.

In the game as you explore the planets, BD-1 will scan certain areas where it will find texts that delve into the surrounding area, and will also find seeds that can be planted in the Mantis. Cal has a bestiary where all kinds of enemies they will defeat will be noted.

Skill System

The developers did an excellent job with the combat system, which not only relies on merciless action. Blocking, parrying and dodging play just as important a role as targeted strikes with the lightsaber and the use of mighty powers. Which actions lead to success depends very much on the opponent. With various types of stormtroopers, droids and animals, a very good variety of enemies is offered, with most enemies requiring different tactics. In the course of the game, Cal Kestis learns many new fighting skills, either through the story or through activation in the skill tree, which give the player a constant feeling of the increasing power of the protagonist.

Even at the highest level, a stormtrooper should tip out of the pines just as easily. The difference, however, lies in the damage caused by the opponent and the time window available to the player for parrying and evasive movements. Impeccable timing is therefore essential to insist on the highest level of difficulty. This is particularly true of boss fights, which are usually much more intense. However, the game uses these special confrontations sparingly and mostly for narrative purposes.

Learning new SKILLS

In addition to the aforementioned cosmetic and passive rewards, there is another reason to thoroughly explore the game world. This is because by far the most experience points can be earned. Again and again can BD-1 items or special In the skill tree we invest skill points in order to improve our powers of power, lightsaber attacks and survival skills.

The experience points are required to invest the skill points earned in the areas of power, lightsaber and survival of a talent tree. Here we unlock new attacks or improvements as well as passive bonuses. However, one shouldn’t expect a role play. In the course of the game you can earn enough skill points that the entire tree can be unlocked at the end. The system

is therefore more used to introduce the player step by step to increasingly complex mechanics. Otherwise, the game doesn’t chase any of the many RPG trends that are finding their way into more and more action-adventure games. There is neither a crafting system nor any equipment with game-relevant values.

Side quests

In addition to fighting, exploring the game world plays an equally important role. Although the levels initially appear to be quite linear, over time they turn out to be partly very intelligently nested areas, which are also larger than you might think. The full scope of the cards can usually only be used much later anyway, since, similar to a Metroidvania, we are repeatedly faced with paths that are not yet open to us with our current skills.

In total, we travel to five planets with Cal and his crew, which differ greatly in size and scope. We visit most of the planets several times in the course of the story, so that we are also tempted by the game to look again at the areas of a map that were not yet explorable. However, we would have at least wished for a certain kind of fast travel to already discovered meditation points.

Engine

Unlike most other EA productions in recent years, Fallen Order does not use the in-house Frostbite engine. Instead, Respawn Entertainment relies on the Unreal Engine 4. This conjures up a chic and harmonious Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC atmosphere on the screen. But the graphic representation never really blew us away. In addition to really great water and fog effects, there are few detailed textures and a generally very grainy look – even with deactivated film grain.

The game was created with Unreal Engine 4 .The inspiration for the design came from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and the Dark Souls series , Asmussen stated that the goal of the game design team included creating a deep combat system and incorporating aspects of the model. of a map of a Metroidvania

Basically, you never have to struggle with loading times in Fallen Order. Except for the start of the game or a respawn after the death of the character, you never get to deal with a loading screen in the game. In order to achieve this, however, the developers also dug deep into their bag of tricks. Many potential loading points were concealed with level passages, where Cal, for example, has to squeeze through a narrow gap. Between the individual planets, the spacecraft’s hyperspace flight, including conversations between Greez and Cere, serves as an interactive loading time.

The Disney has forbidden to use excessive violence on humans in the fighting in the game

The control is well done, for which a gamepad is recommended in any case. The developers make this clear when the PC version is started. In our experience, if you decide to use a mouse and keyboard, you will probably need a little time to get used to the handling of the sometimes precisely required inputs. After all, all buttons and functions can be freely assigned. The same also applies to the controller controls on the PS4. Very exemplary.

Reception

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC received a “generally favorable” reception, according to aggregate reviews on Metacritic . IGN’s Dan Stapleton gave it a 9/10, stating, “Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC rewards a lot of lost time with a fantastic single-player dynamic adventure that marks the return of a Playable Jedi.”

Bottomline – Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC

A pure single-player combat adventure in Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC is based on Star Wars without an imposed online mode, a repulsive games-as-a-service model or contaminated microtransactions including loot boxes? Unreal Engine instead of Frostbite? Respawn must have conjured up some Jedi tricks out of his hat to convince the executive suite of Electronic Arts to be able to realize Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order PC in this form.

But it was worth it: Despite the pale main character and a moderate and sometimes predictable story, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC is the best Star Wars game to date since Disney transferred the valuable exclusive rights to the publisher, who has not been so lucky with the Star warriors has proven.

Above all, the combat system stands out positively, which is unabashedly used by Sekiro, but transfers the mechanics to the use of lightsaber and power skills in the clashes against surprisingly tough opponents. In the case of the save points with constant enemy respawns, the ingratiation to the work of From Software goes a step too far for me.

The artificially forced return to already known areas is also one of the points of criticism due to the excessively long walking distances, although the levels were pleasantly cleverly designed and peppered with appealing environmental puzzles.

Overall, there is a nice mix of combat action, exploration and puzzles, even if the cosmetic stuff in hidden boxes seems unnecessary. The biggest shortcoming is the technology, because on the one hand the quality of the control fluctuates, which works precisely in fights, but often causes frustration with many jump and slide sequences due to vague queries.

On the other hand, the frame rate is anything but stable – at least on the consoles. The constant jerking cannot be suppressed even with good will, but despite all the criticism,Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC negative still outweighs the positive aspects. The game exudes a new hope that the combination of Star Wars and single player adventure works, although the technical fine-tuning is missing. Now it’s up to EA and the willingness of the players to buy whether it has a future …

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PC turned out to be a good game, and the PC version is in the same vein. The technical implementation is not a highlight, but it is well done. The game looks good overall, but there are no highlights. The frame rate is appropriate for this, because a high-end graphics card is not absolutely necessary for the maximum level of detail.
