Brazilian fans rejoice! After months of speculation ESL confirmed that Brazil would be hosting the first major of 2020. Taking place at the Jeunesse Arena, Rio de Janeiro; it will be the first major a South American country will host.
The competition will be a part of the new ESL Pro Tour- a combined tournament circuit involving both ESL and DreamHack competitions. The tour will also have $5m USD as the prize pool for the competitions.
Counter Strike: Global Offensive creators usually award two majors in a year to different organizers namely: ESL, DreamHack , Faceit or StarSeries. The qualification procedure involves 3 different stages after which the playoffs are conducted. The playoffs are scheduled to take place between 21st-24th May.
The major in Brazil will be the 8th major hosted by ESL overall after starting with ESL One Katowice ,2014 .
The major will also be a part of the Intel Extreme Grand Slam- a parallel competition which awards the fastest team to win 4 events conducted by ESL or DreamHack. Team Liquid are currently the reigning champions of the Grand Slam while Astralis are the defending champs of the Major.
With the love the Brazilian fans show to the game there is little doubt about the hype for the Major. The two Brazilian teams; Made in Brazil (MiBR) and Furia Esports will hope to make it a memorable tournament for the fans and bring back the glory days. MiBR recently updated its roster bringing in Agrentinian youngster “Meyern” to prepare for the competition.
Counter strike currently is at its most competitive nature with many teams fighting for supremacy.
The competitive nature along with the rapturous crowd expected will excite not only the players but also the community as a whole.
We can also expect Neymar to be in the stands if his team Furia qualify for the playoffs and have a match on 24th May since Ligue 1,the French football league gets over on 23rd May.
