Resident Evil: Everything about the franchise you need to know till date (2020)

Resident Evil (1996)

Resident Evil is a survival horror video game developed and released by Capcom originally for the PlayStation in 1996, and is the first game in the Resident Evil series. The game’s plot follows Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, members of an elite task force known as S.T.A.R.S., as they investigate the outskirts of Raccoon City following the disappearance of their team members.

Storyline

Resident Evil is set in an old mansion, the Spencer Mansion, in the fictional Raccoon Forest. The forest is near the small town of Raccoon City, which is the main employer of a mysterious pharmaceutical company called Umbrella Corporation. In addition to legal research, the company conducts bioweapons research and genetic manipulation under the name White Umbrella with the aim of creating a super warrior.

To do this, unscrupulous researchers created the so-called Tyrant virus (T virus), a pathogen created from the progenitor virus that mutates its host after a short time and only follows one basic instinct: eating. By accelerating decomposition, the virus causes the victim to be deformed, but this does not prevent the sick person from continuing to live.

Commercially, this game was one of the most successful of the PlayStation era and kicked off an avalanche of survival horror games. Including, for example, Silent Hill or Parasite Eve.

Resident Evil 2 (1998)

In this survival horror adventure, you can either control Leon Kennedy or Clare Redfield, both of whom are fighting for their lives. In addition to eliminating a horde of zombies, you have to uncover the secrets of the Umbrella Corporation.

Storyline

Two months after the incident in the mansion, the Umbrella Corporation sends out its own special unit to steal the G-Virus newly developed by William Birkin. Shortly after the failed operation, the virus spreads across Raccoon City.

After Chris Redfield, a main character of the first part, disappears without a trace shortly after his assignment in the mansion, his sister Claire Redfield sets out to Raccoon City to look for her brother there. At this point she does not yet know that the residents there have already mutated into bloodthirsty zombies

They finally reach the research laboratory, where an underground train station and train are supposed to help them escape from the city. In the laboratory, where the G-Virus was developed, the plot ends with defeating the mutated William Birkin. Claire, Leon and Sherry (the daughter of the Birkins) escape the city. Chris Redfield, Claire’s brother, remains missing.

Re-Make

On August 12, 2015, it was announced on YouTube that a remake was being worked on.Two weeks beforehand, fans were asked on the official Facebook page in which direction a possible Resident Evil 2 remake should go. As part of E3 2018, the remake was announced worldwide for January 25, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows. The remake stays true to the horror and gets a new shoulder camera and 4K graphics for an even more intense gaming experience. Against Mr. X one goes back into the fight.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is a survival horror video game developed by Capcom and released for the PlayStation in 1999.

Storyline

Resident Evil 3 takes place a few hours before and after the events of the second part. The playable character this time is Jill Valentine, who is already known from the first part. It was created by S.T.A.R.S. suspended and about to leave town when the disaster in Raccoon City takes its course. The city is overrun by zombies and there are hardly any survivors. However, through her work in the manor, Jill is already well prepared for the horror that awaits her.

Umbrella France (the company’s European headquarters) is sending its new Nemesis project to Raccoon City. Its mission is to kill all S.T.A.R.S. members as they know about Umbrella’s illegal bioweapons research. The player therefore meets Nemesis several times in the game without being able to finally defeat him before the final.

During the escape from the city you meet some of Umbrella’s soldiers, they have the task of evacuating civilians and high-ranking Umbrella shareholders, but are also used, without their knowledge, as “guinea pigs” to test the effectiveness of the latest virus generation.

For a short section of the game you slip into the role of the U.B.C.S. soldier (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service) Carlos Oliveira, who has to find an antidote for Jill, who is now infected with the T or G virus. The plot ends with the destruction of Raccoon City by a nuclear weapon and the successful escape of the two playable characters.

Resident Evil Zero

Resident Evil Zero is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. It is the fifth major installment in the Resident Evil series and was originally released for the GameCube in 2002

Storyline

Resident Evil Zero takes place before the first part. The Bravo team of the S.T.A.R.S. was dispatched to investigate the bizarre murders in Raccoon Forest, but the helicopter crashes on arrival. The crew survived the accident, but lost all equipment. While securing the site, the team came across a prisoner transport and the bodies of murdered soldiers.

There is only no trace of the convict and ex-marine Billy Coen, who should also be in the car and was on the way to his execution for multiple murders. In the role of Rebecca Chambers, an 18-year-old S.T.A.R.S.-recruit, the player goes on a search for the fugitive.

As with Resident Evil 3 Nemesis and Resident Evil Code Veronica, it is not possible to choose between different playable people at the beginning. However, as soon as the protagonists meet, you can switch to the other character at any time. There are also sections that only need to be completed with a specific person.

Remastered

In 2016 Capcom released the game as an HD remaster for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and for the PC on January 19th as a download version. This version has an increased resolution of 1080p, an adapted, optionally selectable dynamic 16: 9 widescreen format and two new game modes called “Leech Hunter”

Resident Evil: Revelations

The gameplay of Revelations is based on the survival horror-influenced earlier games in the series with recurring elements such as a limited supply of ammunition and a greater emphasis on discovery and solving puzzles. [3] The in-game camera maintains a view over the character’s shoulder.

In contrast to previous Resident Evil games, the player can now move the figure while aiming with a weapon and has the option to switch between a third person and a first person perspective. A new game concept, the Genesis scanner, can be used throughout the course of the game to find hidden objects in the area.

Critically acclaimed

Resident Evil: Revelations received generally good reviews. Metacritic lists the title with an average rating of 82 out of 100 with 43 reviews Richard George of IGN Entertainment praised the game concept, but criticized the plot M! Games praised Revelations as “thrillingly staged, great to play and extremely motivating” and awarded 90%. Famitsu rated the game with 39 out of 40 points.

Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil 6 was first officially announced in a trailer on January 19, 2012. The announcement was accompanied by a viral marketing campaign via the nohopeleft.com website. The date of publication was initially planned for November 20, 2012, but this was brought forward to October 2, 2012 with the appearance of a second trailer.

Scenarios

The game has four storylines that overlap again and again and only together form a complete and comprehensible story.

  • FOS agent Leon S. Kennedy (main character from Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4) is supported by the new character Helena Harper (focus on horror).
  • BSAA Alpha Leader Chris Redfield (main character from Resident Evil and Resident Evil 5) receives help from comrade Piers Nivans (focus on action).
  • Mercenary Jake Muller (son of Albert Wesker) has to work with Sherry Birkin (known from Resident Evil 2, daughter of William Birkin) (focus on innovation).
  • Only after having played through the first three scenarios does the player get access to the scenario with Ada Wong, who has no partner, but answers the last, open questions of the previous scenarios in the story (focus on puzzles). A partner was added after an update.

The game has been delivered over 4.5 million times, which is a new company record. Capcom forecasts 7 million units sold by the end of March 2013. For comparison: The predecessor Resident Evil 5 has so far been sold 5.8 million times

Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is a survival horror game. It is controlled from the third person perspective. The player explores the game world, evading threats if possible, but can occasionally take out enemies with the help of weapons. Solving simple puzzles enables access to additional areas.

The game set involves Claire and her colleagues being attacked and abducted by unknown assailants and taken to a deserted island. Most of the details about Revolutions 2 were brought forward from the first revolutions and according to critics, the graphics didn’t get a single jolt of innovation and the game had quite a number of technical issues.

From 30 aggregated ratings, the Playstation 4 version of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 on Metacritic achieved a score of 75.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a survival horror first-person shooter from Capcom. The video game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the Playstation 4 version is playable with PlayStation VR. It was developed with the RE engine specially designed by Capcom for the game. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the first installment in the Resident Evil core series, which is played in first person view.

Gameplay

The player controls the protagonist Ethan from the first person perspective. As with previous Resident Evil games, he has access to a wide variety of weapons including pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives, and chainsaws to fight opponents., However, according to the developers, one should not expect a “gun festival” in the game since ammunition is relatively scarce, especially in the higher levels of difficulty

As in previous parts of the series, this part also contains puzzles, resource management and medicinal herbs. Unused items can be kept in an inventory box, stored in both automatic storage points and manually on old-fashioned cassette recorders. On the other hand, quick-time events were completely dispensed with this time.

The trade press mainly gave good to very good grades. The return to the roots of the series was praised.

Resident Evil 2 (Remake)

In contrast to the original, the remake is played from the pursuer’s perspective. At the beginning the player has the choice between two characters: Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield.

Depending on the chosen character, some parts of the game are a little different. In addition, the game can be started in a so-called “B scenario” after it has been played through for the first time, which has further differences in the course of the game.

Absolute beauty of Opening

The opening credits show a trucker driving a tanker at night while eating a hamburger. After he hits a figure with his vehicle, he stops his vehicle and gets out to see what he has detected with his vehicle. The figure lying on the street is a woman’s corpse, who turns out to be a zombie and attacks the truck driver after he tries to examine her.

Resident Evil 2 from 2019 received extremely good reviews. It was celebrated by many game magazines as a successful remake and model example. It is not just a simple HD remaster with only graphical improvements, but an all-round reinterpretation that has been fundamentally modernized and equipped with a contemporary third-person perspective.

Resident Evil 3 (Remake)

Resident Evil 3 is a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, a survival horror video game released in 1999 for the PlayStation.

In contrast to the original, which has a fixed camera perspective setting, the remake offers a pursuer’s perspective, similar to the remake Resident Evil 2 from 2019.

The remake also includes an online multiplayer mode called Resident Evil: Resistance, in which a team of four players competes against a “mastermind” who can create traps, enemies and other obstacles.

The story takes place at the same time as the events of Resident Evil 2, which appeared in 1998. Former S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine tries to escape the fictional city of Raccoon City during a zombie apocalypse caused by the T-Virus outbreak.

She is being pursued by an artificial intelligence powered bioweapon called Nemesis, which attempts to eliminate her and any remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. [3] The game also follows the mercenary Carlos Oliveira, who was hired by the Umbrella organization to find and help survivors.
