Plague Inc, a game developed in 2012 by Ndemic Creations is an app that lets users control different pathogens. And spread them throughout the world by controlling various factors like transmission, symptoms and abilities. Since its inception the game has been in the top charts of the Play Store. The number of players playing the game has recently spiked up and this is not news for the app. The app always sees a jump in the downloads whenever there is a fear of global epidemic like Ebola or the current Coronavirus.
Following the Coronavirus Outbreak and it being labelled as a pandemic on March 12 2020 many players went to the game developers with the idea of creating a challenge to save the world from the epidemic instead of spreading. Since the idea was novel and very beneficial in the spreading of awareness about the virus the developers considered doing so.
Now in Plague Inc Save the World
After discussions between Ndemic Creations, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Coalition of Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) a few key things were finalized regarding the update and what all will it include. The new update will include abilities for players to control governments. They will be allowed to control the health care systems, impose sanctions and quarantines, look at the public response and shut down public services. This comes as not just as a new update but in effort to bring about the consequences of what is happening in the minds of the players.
Misguidedly many players contacted the craters with questions regarding the Coronavirus, to which the developers replied “Plague Inc. is a game, not a scientific model, and that the current coronavirus outbreak is a very real situation”. The players should understand that this is just a game and does not hold true in the real world. So players should not turn their faces towards the game if they need to know about the virus or the Do’s and Don’ts
Further Ndemic Creations also donated a huge sum of $250,000 to the World Health Organisation(WHO) and the Coalition of Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) as it’s contribution to fight off the virus.
The update is expected to be out very soon as the developers are themselves working from home.
