Everything you need to know about Rocket League right now (2020)

First appearance as a free game in the PS-Plus subscription, Rocket league exploded with number of players giving numerous enthusiastic feedback and the subsequent storm against the spikers on the Steam top seller list. The small developer studio Psyonix has done all of this with Rocket League, a soccer game with cars and unusual flight maneuvers.

Actually, Autoball is more familiar from television, whether in the British show Top Gear or on Tv total and Schlag den Raab. But even in the games industry, this “genre” had to do with Rocket League. With Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, there was already such a representative on the PlayStation 3, who, however, disappeared into the game jungle again without much fuss. Interestingly, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars also came from Psyonix, the developer who is on everyone’s lips with Rocket League. If you compare these two games with each other, clear parallels are immediately apparent.

But then why do you know Rocket League so well and in most cases have never heard of battle cars? Since this is first and foremost a test article, I will only go into this question in more detail below – now it’s about the way Rocket League is played. Lets find out.

What is Rocket League?

Rocket League is kind of a soccer game but it is played with cars. You are the driver of small buggy(generally). As a driver of a small racing car, truck or buggy – depending on which body you choose – you will go into an arena in the form of a soccer field, which is enclosed by a cage.

But rocket league is anything but easy because first, you have to learn how to handle your own vehicle correctly: To make it as easy as possible, control with a gamepad is highly recommended, whether on the PlayStation 4 or on the PC – keyboard and Theoretically, mice are also possible, but can be used as well as in Dark Souls. Once you have picked up the controller, you do not want to put it down again anyway, because the feel and controls work absolutely smoothly and at no time does the feeling arise that you have been hampered by the controls.

Gameplay

There are 5 different gameplay modes in Rocket League

Standard

It is the most popular game mode in Rocket League. As the name indicates, it is the standard online game mode. It is a 3 versus 3 match with each team comprising of three players. Because of the number of players involved in the gameplay, it is recommended that players maintain tactical positions and rotation across the arena.

Doubles

This is also one of the popular play modes of Rocket league. In this type of game, you are pitted against a team of two players with a teammate to yor help. In doubles, you need to co-operate with only one teammate.

Solo Duel

Solo duel is arguably the most balanced in terms of raw skill. Because it is simply a one-on-one game, solo duel is not based at all on co-operating in a team, but on strategy and skill in the arena.

Solo Standard

The solo standard is generally the least popular competitive playlist. The main feature of this game mode is that players cannot join with their friends in a party and clubs cannot join either. This playlist forces you to co-operate with the largest number of teammates available in ranked along with the team variation.

Why is Rocket League challenging?

Stepping on the gas and steering shouldn’t be a problem for any player, otherwise, you have your hands full hitting the ball at the right moment at the right angle to avoid accidentally scoring an own goal. In addition to the normal driving speed, Boost can be used at the push of a button, which accelerates the car strongly if you have enough of it in the tank. If you have accelerated sufficiently, you can blow up opposing players through a targeted collision and put them out of action for a few seconds before they are ready for use again. The boost can be filled up piece by piece via small orange fields or completely at nodes.

Boost Rocket league

In addition, the cars in Rocket League can also jump and thus have a greater range of motion than ordinary vehicles would have. In addition to simple jumping, sideways rolling, somersaults, or falling backward are also possible, and in combination with the right amount of boost, spectacular air maneuvers can be started, but these require a lot of practice. For shots on goal, midfield passes, or liberation strikes, there are points that ultimately determine the “most valuable player” of the match. Depending on how many points you have scored, you also get the corresponding amount of experience points.

True to the motto “Easy to learn, hard to master”, you can limit yourself to simply driving and boosting with occasional jumping or more or less elegantly take to the skies and shoot the ball into the opposing goal at a height of 10 meters. By the way, you can also drive sideways on the grid walls and also achieve some cool goals with it.

Some tips to master Rocket League

Teamwork

Credits : sephiroth399

As we all know, football is a team sport, even if Messi and Ronaldo sometimes make it look like it isn’t. But even they won’t get far without their teammates, who should hit the flank for Ronaldo if not Toni Kroos? It is no different in Rocket League. The interaction with your teammates is essential for your success. The cooperation is particularly reflected in the positioning of the players on the field

Playing with a role in mind

You shouldn’t just blindly follow the ball. If you are the one who spawned the closest to your own goal, you should voluntarily play a more defensive role. This is not about just standing around in goal like a goalkeeper and waiting for the opponent to start an attack. Because then you can easily be bypassed by your opponents.

However, if you always position yourself in such a way that you can “get” opposing shots on goal before they hit the goal, then you can become really frustrating for your opponents. When you have conquered the ball, you can start a quick counterattack. The defense of your opponents is weakened because they have just launched a vain attack, which puts your team ahead of the game. Having someone in the back who “cleans up” is extremely useful. Rocket League also awards points for defending a shot on goal, so it’s worth it in this regard too.

Be useful for the team even when out of action

If you are just out of range of the ball, you can still be useful for your team. If you have the opportunity, you should ram enemy cars and take them out of the game for a short time. If a car is destroyed, the associated player must wait for a respawn time before being able to intervene again in the game. So you can turn the tide in favor of your team for a short time, even if you had nothing to do with the gaming device.

Keep your head down

If the ball is near your own goal, you should definitely keep calm in the Rocket League as a defender, and act carefully. It may not be more important to race to the scene and somehow get the ball out of the danger zone, no matter how. But if you rush your actions, you can quickly get your defending teammates into trouble by scoring an unwanted and unsustainable own goal. Therefore, you should stay calm, analyze the situation and think about how you can best help your team.

Stay away from the walls

There is one last tip: stay away from the walls. It may look cool to start them up, but apart from a few situations it actually only has disadvantages. You are no longer on the field and therefore completely useless for your team, you slow down and the camera also has its problems, which makes orientation much more difficult. So if it’s not absolutely relentless, you should try to avoid the walls of Rocket League.

Why Rocket League was a huge success?

Among many videos and articles on the subject of Rocket League, there is always this discussion about the success of this fast-paced football racing game. The most common argument here is the PS-Plus campaign, with which you actually got the Rs.500 Rocket League for free and therefore played so many people. And in fact, this was probably the impetus for the hype wave for the title, but it is certainly not the only and most important point.

The game principle is much more important: As I said above, it is super easy to learn and play Rocket League, for unusual moves or the top positions in the ranking, you have to spend a lot longer on the game. If an acrobatic air stunt succeeds with a game-deciding goal, you like to pat yourself on the shoulder and enjoy this “outplay” feeling to the fullest – at least until your next defeat.

Added to this is the fact that the short playing time of five minutes actually always allows one or two matches to be bridged and that the game is so wonderful for in between. If you then play with friends, you can not avoid finding fun in this game. And THAT results in this explosive success of Rocket League, which ensures that every day through the cross-platform, also a contribution to the success of the game, PlayStation and Steam together have over 100,000 players online and the ball around each other’s ears shoot.

Bottomline

Rocket League is an entertaining but extremely fun game, the strength of which lies primarily in multiplayer. “Quickly a round” can be an entire season and a short game with friends can be an entire evening. In the long term, however, there is a lack of variety and alternative game modes. Overall, Rocket League is quite successful and promises a few hours of fun for football and racing fans.
