Dota 2 LA Major Update

The ESL One LA Major is the 3rd major of their year. The tournament was supposed to happen in Los Angeles from 15th March to 22nd March 2020. Initially it was planned to postpone it due to the pandemic and the dates were to be announced later but it was finally converted into an online tournament which is currently going on. The Prize Pool for the tournament is $375,000. This blog will give you an update about the LA major. Apart from the majors the annual tournament of Dota 2 is The International. How does the Dota 2 LA Major work?

The major is being held online in 5 regions North America, China, South America, EU+CIS & South East Asia.


Format for North America, South America and South East Asia

4 teams are invited and then they play matches in a round robin format. The 1st team goes to the final, 2nd,3rd compete in the semifinals and the 4th is eliminated.


North America

The Prize Pool for this region was $40,000. More than 60,000 viewers watched the tournament on various streams. The 4 invited teams for the Dota 2 LA Major were-

So the Quincy Crew headed to the Grand Finals. In the semi-finals the Evil Geniuses outplayed CR4ZY by winning the Bo3 by 2-1. The finale was a surprise fest where Evil Geniuses won by 3-1.


South America

Similar to the North American tournament, the Prize Pool was also kept the same.

No Ping esports reached the finals but lost to beastcoast who came through the semi-finals route in the Dota 2 LA Major South American region.


South East Asia

Team Adroit was the first one to reach the finals but the match was not in their favour at all. Team Fnatic who came from the Semi Finals crushed them with a 3-0 victory.


Format for China

Six teams were invited and a round robin format was followed. The top 2 teams went to the upper bracket, while the 3rd and 4th went to the lower, the rest 2 were eliminated. The Prize Pool for the region was $55,000

Royal Never Give Up vs EHOME – 2-1

Newbee vs Vici Gaming – 2-1

Newbee vs EHOME – 2-1

The finals between Royal Never Give Up and Newbee was clinched by Royal Never Give Up by a 3-1 win. Taking the enormous prize of $25,000 home.


For EU+CIS

15 teams were invited and one came through the qualifiers. The teams were divided in 2 groups of 8 each. The top two from each group advance to the upper bracket while the 3rd and  4th advance to the lower bracket of the double-elimination playoffs.  

The top 2 teams in each group are Victus.Pro, OG and Team Secret, Team Spirit and the lower 2 teams are Team Nigma, Vikin.gg and Alliance, Chicken Fighter.

The double-elimination playoffs are still going on, the next match is between Team Spirit and Chicken Fight on 18th April 2:30 pm IST.
