The International is an annual Esports competition to find the best DOTA 2 team in the world organised and hosted by the developer of the game Valve. The International 2 was conducted from 26th August to 2nd September 2012 after the success of the first edition held in 2011.
How does the TI work?
1. Team Selection
Now the tournament consists of 16 teams out of which 14 of them are invited on the basis of their rankings in the Dota Pro Circuit and 2 of them are selected through the Eastern and the Western Qualifiers.
2. Preliminary Round
16 teams are placed in 2 groups of 8 teams each. Each team plays with every other team in their group twice. The top 4 from each group go into the Winners Bracket and the bottom 4 from each group go to the Losers Bracket.
3. Main Event
All rounds of the Winners Bracket, except for the grand finals, are Bo3. Rounds 1 through 4 of the Losers Bracket are Bo1. The last two rounds of the Losers Bracket are Bo3. The winner of the Losers Bracket will face the winner of the Winners Bracket in the grand finals in a Bo5 in order to determine the champion
The International 2 Dota 2
Preliminary Round
The preliminary round acted like a testing round for all the teams making sure that they know all the other teams that they have played, their strengths and their weaknesses. For the defending Champs Natus Vincere or Na’Vi the round was a bit of a roller coaster. Although the first 8 games did not go well as we could see communication issues and less self confidence as they went losing the games, but they really turned it around in the last 8 games finishing 3rd in their group. Team IG and Team LGD finished with a whopping 13-1 and 14-0 in their respective groups.
Main Stage Round
The main Round was held at the Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington. It was an elimination type round and it resulted in heartbreaks of many teams who hoped to go further down the eliminations. At the end of Day 2, it came down to the final 4 teams LGD, IG, DK and NaVi. The crowd favorites were of course LGD as they had been undefeated throughout the tournament. But again this tournament was full of surprises. After a long day and amazing turn of events and some formidable gameplay, IG and NaVi reach the finals.
The Grand Finals
VS
The Grand Finale was a best of 5 Match between IG and NaVi. The final was, just like the tournament a ride of adrenaline rush, in the set of 5 matches IG won the 1st, 3rd and 4th match eventually coming out as winners of the tournament.
All the teams were fantastic and the very fact that they reached here is a testimony of their success. In my opinion IG deserved the Tournament every bit, they had worked hard to come here. They had the patience even when they were losing their matches. IG kept their calm and that is what a winners characteristics are right?
