Day 2 review of DreamHack Masters Spring 2020

DreamHack Masters Spring continued as Day 2 gave a clearer picture of how things are shaping up in the Group A of the European region. As for the NA region, we saw “trk” in action for MiBR as they replaced “meyern” to make it an all Brazilian squad again.

Here is our recap on how the games played out on Day 2 of the competition.

1. Europe Group A:-

The first match up of the day was between G2 Esports and Heroic. Knowing that Heroic had given Astralis a run for their victory, Heroic were certain to pose as a threat to the faltering International squad.

G2 were still the favorites though which they proved in the end winning 2:1 in a hard fought series. Heroic took Vertigo 16-13 to which G2 replied by winning Nuke 16:13. Mirage was the final map which Heroic let slip from their grasp. They were leading 15-12 but lost the next three rounds to eventually lose in OT 19-16.

Heroic now has lost both their matches and are almost out of the qualifying race.

The second match was an all Danish affair with Astralis taking on North. It was a usual routine victory for Astralis as they comfortably won 2-0 winning Vertigo 16-4 and Inferno 16-8. “Magisk” was the top performer with 38 kills and his in game calling was also impressive.

Astralis remain unbeaten in the group and are guaranteed the top spot after Day 2 of play.

2. North America Group A

The only match in the NA region was the Brazilian derby between MiBR and Furia. As it has been Furia were the favorites given their red hot form and seeing MiBR playing with a new lineup.

The result was as expected Furia won 2:0 but MiBR showed signs of life and potential with their new roster. Furia won 16-11 on Vertigo and 16-12 on Train. “trk” struggled as he only managed to muster 21 kills across both games but the other veterans impressed.

Note:- DreamHack Masters Spring 2020 was originally to take place in Jonkoping, Sweden but was shifted online due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The compeition will now have four regional events all taking place in between from 19th May to 14th June. 32 teams have been divided on their regional baese; Asia, Oceania, Europe & North America. DreamHack on its part have increased the prize pool from $250,000 to $300,000. To know the complete schedule, click here
