Epic games wins big at Golden Joystick Awards

The 37th Golden Joystick Awards took place on 15th November 2019 in London, Bath, United Kingdom. This is the biggest publicly voted game awards in the world. Prizes are given out for the best games released in the year. There were over 3.5 million public votes for 19 of the 24 categories in the award ceremony this year.

After being named as the ultimate game in 2018, Epic Games took home two big awards this year, winning Studio of the Year and Esports Game of the year with Fortnite. Fortnite player Ewok held top spot in the best streamer category. The 13-year-old recently became the first female player of the esports team Faze Clan. Apart from this, Resident Evil 2 won the Ultimate Game of the Year and Audio award. 

Cyber Punk won 2077


Other winners include Cyberpunk 2077 in the category of most wanted game. This game has previously made headlines at the E3 conference as it announced Keanu Reeves starring as Johnny Silverhand. On contrary to popular expectations, mobile game of the year went to BTS World, a game where you play as the manager of the infamous K-pop boy band. The lifetime achievement award went to the former head of Sega AM2 Yu Suzuki. He has worked on many arcade titles of the company.

  • Best New Streamer/Broadcaster: Ewok
  • Breakthrough Award: House House
  • Mobile Game of the Year: BTS World
  • Outstanding Contribution: Life is Strange
  • PC Game of the Year: World of Warcraft Classic
  • PlayStation Game of the Year: Days Gone
  • Xbox Game of the Year: Gears 5
  • Nintendo Game of the Year: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Most Wanted Game: Cyberpunk 2077
  • Critics Choice Award: Control
  • Lifetime Achievement: Yu Suzuki
  • Ultimate Game of the Year: Resident Evil 2
