Former Chinese powerhouse and TI2 champions Invictus Gaming aka I.G claimed the first DPC Minor of the 2019-2020 season brushing aside their opponents with a comfortable 3-0 win over Chaos Esports Club in the grand final.
The 7th pick Timbersaw by I.G. in game one of the best of five grand finals set the tone for the series with I.G. playing some of the most aggressive Dota in recent times, bullying Chaos and taking the game 30-15 in less than 24 minutes.
The second and third games went on longer but I.G. were always in control and dominating, shrinking the map on Chaos and punishing the greedy cores of Chaos.
KOTL had been the hero of the tournament till the grand finals and the go to position 5 support for Chaos and their captain SVG having won all 4 games they played with KOTL.
Perhaps Invictus Gaming’s masterstroke was banning out KOTL first phase in all the five games against Chaos on LAN, denying Chaos their comfort pick in the grand final. This win earns I.G. a place at MDL Chengdu Major, the first Major of the DPC season and a minimum of 140 DPC points and $72,000 in prize money.
Having grinded their way through the Tier 2 scene I.G. will finally get an opportunity to compete against the best in the world and this new roster with a great mix of experience and youth looks more than prepared for the challenge.
Chaos had a good run themselves having topped their group going 2-0 without losing a map. In fact they did not drop a single game except losing all five to I.G. first the 0-2 in the upper bracket final and then the 0-3 in the grand final.
What began as Quincy Crew with SVG making his comeback into professional Dota 2 and brothers Sumail and Yawar playing together professionally for the first time ever has come a long way.
Sumail is no longer a part of the team having left right after they qualified for the minor and the roster with SaberLight as the stand-in offlaner and veteran CIS star Illidan as the coach was taken over by Chaos Esports Club.
Chaos still have a long way to go to reach the top tier of North American Dota challenging the likes of Evil Geniuses and J.Storm.
But they seem to be on the right track taking home 120 DPC points and $60,000 in prize money.
Before the Summit 11 began there was a lot of talk about the apparent decline of CIS Dota and the added drama of Virtus Pro withdrawing from the tournament allowing jfshfh178 to compete as the 2nd entry form CIS along with HellRaisers.
The drama didn’t end there with HellRaisers having to bench captain ALOHADANCE after he refused to train with the team forcing them to play with stand-in CemaTheSlayer.
HellRaisers finished 3rd taking $54,000 in prize money and 110 DPC points, but they will incur a 60% point deduction as per VALVE DPC rules (20% reduction for removing a player from their roster and 40% for playing with a sub). Jfshfh178 finished 3rd bagging 90 DPC points and $42,000 in prize money. Their combined performances give hope to the CIS scene which looks to be going through a tough time.
Keeper of the Light (KOTL) has been the hero of the tournament boasting a 75% win rate.
The highest among heroes being drafted over 10 times on the LAN. With 9 wins in 12 games and a 4-0 record when drafted on the radiant side, KOTL is one of the strongest supports in the game.
Will-O-Wisp is undoubtedly one of the strongest team fight ability in DOTA and a very powerful tool to defend highground, take Roshan or seige.
Combining that with his ability to keep lanes pushed with Illuminate and disrupt fights with a low cooldown high impact ability like Blinding Light makes KOTL a nightmare to play against. We could expect some nerfs in the coming fall patch.
With less than a week left to MDL Chengdu beginning on the 16th of November, all eyes will be on Invictus Gaming to see if they can replicate Vici Gaming’s “Minor winner to Major Champion” feat and build on their solid start to the DPC Season.
