Valve continues to crack down on cheaters by enforcing Multiple Dota Bans.
With another string of bans, Valve continues to work towards a cheater-free experience for DOTA players. The company announced on the official twitter account for DOTA that more than 40,000 accounts had been banned. A policy change soon followed, according to which the bans would be on the steam accounts of the players. Earlier bans usually banned just the DOTA accounts of the cheaters.
What are the Dota bans about?
Valve attributed the bans to “ abusing matchmaking”. That is a pretty vague explanation, but the ban is most likely on boosters. Dota 2 players can turn to a friend or use paid services to raise the MMR of their accounts, allowing them to illegitimately be ranked more highly. This has a negative impact on the in-game experience, especially at higher levels, as players can find themselves playing against opponents that don’t otherwise belong in that skill pool.
Valve saving DOTA from drowning?
While the ban isn’t the biggest in the history of DOTA, it is still fairly significant. This is because it shows Valve’s efforts to save a game with a dwindling fanbase. Just recently, it hit a historically low player count in December. January dropped even lower.
The troubling part is that this isn’t an exception, it seems like the norm.
2019 saw a precipitous decline following a boom in the spring surrounding Dota Auto Chess. Because Dota 2’s player count tends to be highest in the winter, it’s easy to wonder if things are set to decline even further as 2020 progresses.
Its a better news for Dota 2 Fans. Valve has not been taking any major action against the toxic players in Dota. Many complaint of boosters playing and spoiling Rank game. This is one of the good steps in catering to overalls communities request and problems. After Matchmaking failed updates, Dota 2 developers ban action is appreciated.
Though still there’s a lot which needs to be done to appeal to new players of Dota 2. There have also been lot of complaints of Dota 2 not marketed well enough by Valve. And old players feels not rewarded enough from this game. The community needs more updates and that too quicker.
