The first PUBG Global championship was held last year i.e. 2019 in the month of November, with the Grand Finals in Oakland Arena where teams came from around the world to win the title of the 1st ever PGC winner. The finals were held for 2 full days with teams giving their best and pushing hard to get that Chicken Dinner. Apparently a Chicken Dinner worth $2 Million. Yes, that was the money the winner took home.
The winning team was by the name of Gen.G , now this is a team that you might have even heard in various other games including the likes of CSGO and Fortnite. So basically Gen.G is a group, if I take my liberty of saying it, of gamers. They have teams dedicated to specific games competing at various levels and they have a lot of credits to their name. So in this blog we’ll be exploring how the Gen.G became PUBG Global Champions.
Talking about the PGC, The PUBG Global Championship was like a gold mine for this team to showcase their talent. Throughout the tournament, whether it was the group stage or the semi-finals, Gen.G made sure all the people watching this knew their name throughout.
Six games were played daily and points were awarded by a specific system they had. The scoring system depended on two factors, a point was awarded for each kill while all the other points were gained by the team’s placement.
The Gen.G surfed their way easily through the group stages and the semi-finals.
The Grand Finale was spread over 2 days. In the first day itself the team Gen.G highlighted its importance by getting the Chicken dinner consecutively in the first 2 games itself and also getting 22 kills in the first 2 rounds itself. This gave them the perfect head start that any team was imagining. Although throughout the 2 days after the first 2 games, they did not secure any Chicken Dinner.
But they showed consistency in all the games, getting good rotations and constantly getting kills in each round. Towards the end of the 2nd day the last game was totally a deciding game with just a seven point distance between the 1st placed and the 3rd placed teams.
But the last game turned to be a bit of a bomb for the 2nd and 3rd placed teams. The winning Chicken Dinner was taken by Natus Vincere, but it was Gen.G still ahead of FaZe by a huge 10 points margin who took the trophy and the cash prize home, along with the bragging rights of winning the PGC!
