League of Legends World Championship 2015

League of Legends World Championship 2015 was the 5th edition of the annual esports tournament organised by the developer of the Video game Riot Games. The competition was held between the dates of 1st to 31st October 2015. Something special about this was it took place in a lot of cities including Paris, London, Brussels etc. A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament, to be qualified they had either won a Professional League or a regional qualifying tournament. The games were streamed on Youtube, Twitch and Azubu for the general public to view. Total viewers were estimated at 33 Million.

Group Stage

The Group Stage consisted of the teams being divided into 4 groups where they played a Double Round Robin format.The group stage was played in Paris. The top 2 teams qualified for the knockout stage and the remaining were eliminated. All the matches were Bo1.

Knockout Stage

The 8 teams who reached the knockout stage played in a single elimination bracket for 7 days. The knockout stage was held at various places. The quarter finals were held in London, England; the semi-finals in Brussels, Belgium and the finals in Berlin, Germany. The teams SK Telecom T1 and the KOO Tigers raced through the knockout stage into the Grand Finals. All the matches were Bo5.


League of Legends World Championship 2015 – Grand Finale


SK Telecom T1

The Grand Finale was held at the Mercedes-Benz Arena Berlin, Germany. The arena boasted a fully packed seating of 17,000. According to sources in the finals their concurrent viewing peaked at around 14 million people, to put into perspective that is the total population of Zimbabwe!  The team SK Telecom easily won the finals against the KOO Tigers with a 3-1 match win, making them the champions of League of Legends World Championship 2015.
