The ongoing Beijing & Hong Kong conflicts seem to widen up after a professional video game player from Hong Kong receives a ban from the top global tournament, HearthStone Esports. NG Wai Chung popularly known under the name “Blitzchung” was a contestant in the ongoing Hearthstone Grandmaster tournament in the Asia Pacific Division. The ban follows as a result of shouting the popular protest slogan “Liberate Hong Kong, the revolution of our time” on a live stream by NG Wai Chung. Publisher.
As per the statement of Blizzard Entertainment, Hearthstone’s developer and publisher, NG did not follow the 5,00,000 competition rule that “prohibits engaging in any act that Blizzard’s stole discretion brings you into public or otherwise damages Blizzard image. Blizzard also stated that NG Wai Chung will be unable to participate in any Hearthstone’s Esports event till October 5.
According to an interview all that the player said was “ Blizzard’s decision now is what I expect. I decided to say the slogan because I think I have a duty and right to say it, the ban is unfair to me, but I respect their decision”, he added. The unexpected decision of Blizzard has been met with rage from some in Hong Kong who blamed that Blizzard is yet another company showing an inclination towards Beijing.
The ministry and NBA need to realize that it is not just about the blame game rather than finding a way out for it is causing the sport to suffer. Apparently, such blunders by global agencies, the government concerned will make the protest more furious which has been continuing for 4 months.
