How the Witcher Card Game works?

You are put up against an opponent and you take turns playing your card. Each game has 3 rounds and you have to win at least 2 to win the game. Now the gameplay is a bit long and can be seen as tedious at first but once you get the hang of the game I guarantee you you’ll find this game extremely engaging.

Each player gets to choose a card from at least 25 cards. Now you might think it’s wise to keep playing cards but you can only play 2 cards in the second round and 1 in the 3rd so if you decide to play a lot of them in the first round itself, you will be at a disadvantage later on probably even missing the win.

Now the game has this thing called as factions. Each deck belongs to a faction and all of them have varied playing styles. Each of them have leaders having individual abilities. As of now the game gives you a choice of 5 factions to play with.

If you still believe you’re not getting the hang of it, go and watch  this tutorial video,

Troops in Gwent: The Witcher card Game

1.  Northern Realms– This faction is known for its armours and ability to defend. But it has tricks to give some damage to the opponent as well.

2.  Monsters– Now this is a weather based faction. These factions contain cards which synergise with the weather types. Giving our troops an advantage over theirs.

3.  Scoia’tael– This faction mainly contains dwarves and elves.

4.  Skellige- Now this faction is a little different. It allows you to damage your own troops to gain perks

5.  Nilfgaards– Now this is that ‘spy’ faction. These are the sneakiest troops, by getting into the enemies side they can tell you a lot therefore giving you an upper hand.

Ore is the currency of the game. You can earn ore by winning rounds. So even if you win one round and end up losing the match you still are getting benefitted. If you win 6 rounds a day you get a 100 or which can be spent to buy a keg.

Kegs are the way to get  new cards. Whenever you open a keg you get 5 new cards, out of these 4 are simple cards and the 5th one gives you a choice between picking from 3 cards.

Another way to get cards is to craft them, you can do that by earning the currency by exchanging cards you do not want or selling the duplicates. Always strategies in what cards you want to craft and make sure you plan them. This will help you in getting a steady deck which eventually helps you with the matches.

Another thing that opens up when you reach level 10 is the ranked ladder. Although it might seem risky but it is worth it, since you stand a chance of getting so many rewards including Meteorite powder which is a tool needed to craft premium cards. All this while you can play the casual mode to try and test your cards before playing in the ranked ladder.

Overall Impression

Overall Gwent: The Witcher card game (having such a big name!) is quite satisfactory. Although it might take you some time in the beginning to pick up the shenanigans of the game but once you are up to speed this game comes out to be very engaging and you might even see yourself playing it for long times several times a day.
