Gla1ve

Lukas Rossander better known by his in-game name ‘gla1ve’ has decided to take a 3 month break from gaming. The professional gamer who is the current leader of the Astralis team gave a 3 month leave notice to his team owing to health issues. In a post made on twitlonger he talked about his mental health issues and cited a burnout as the major reason as to why he is taking this break. In his replacement the player Jakob ‘JUGi’ Hansen Will be taking his place as the team leader as of now for the upcoming DreamHack Masters Spring. he tweeted about his decision to step down.

Throughout the post he talks about how he has been suffering mental stress for some time now and his friends at his team Astralis have tried to help him through this but none of it worked. Towards the end he wrote, “It can be tough to put health first, but I have found out that it’s necessary.”

This strikes up about conversation regarding the mental health issues players at the top tiers are facing.

Even the coach of the team Danny ‘zonic’ Sorensen said “You might not see it from the outside but there are so many tasks on a CS-team and many players are pressured beyond what is healthy,”

Which is obviously true. These players not only carry on their dreams when they reach the top but the dreams of all the aspiring fans who want their favorite team/player to win. All these competitions and on top of that the regularity of them, coming one after the other can be mentally stressful to these guys much more than any physical exhaustion.

Thanks to the action taken by Gla1ve, this might just bring up this important issue to highlight as more and more people come up to know about the mental health issues.
