The Dutch department of defense have decided to form their own counter strike team. If that seems weird, wait till you hear why they decided to form a team in the first place.
According to government officials, Esports tournaments are the perfect place to scout for talent.
“Look at drone technology. The drone pilot of the future is likely somehow involved in Esports,” Royal Navy commander Peter van den Berg told Omroep West. “Gamers are constantly making decisions under time pressure,” van den Berg continued.
That being said, the department of defense also understand the difference between video games and the real world. Of course, you don’t get to respawn in real life. Guido Vols, a marine and member of KM Esports, agrees. “That really is action, you are more than 100 percent focused,” he told Omroep West. “Everything can mean death there.”
As far as professional Esports are considered, KM esports (the name of the esports team) are far from the top. The Dutch CSGO Team got pwned quite easily, to say the least. But then again, you can only expect so much from a team which has only played for 30 hours together.
The commander remains optimistic, however. This Esports tournament is a first step for us to enter this world .We hope to achieve better results next season.”
