Gamers Without Borders Fights Against COVID-19

Gamers without Borders

Gamers Without Borders is a charity Esports event taken up as an initiative to fight against COVID-19. The Initiative has been taken up by Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic and Intellectual Sports (SAFEIS) and supported by the world’s largest esports company, ESL, as technical partner and is currently going on. It will span from 24th April to June 7th 2020. Basically it includes 7 weeks of gaming. Each week features a different tournament of a different game.

The tournament has 2 tiers. One where amateurs can participate, for them 6 global community tournaments per week will be hosted in various games. While the second tier will have the top teams in the game will compete against the best people from the amateur tournament.

The total prize pool for all of the 7 weeks is a huge sum of $10 Million that will be distributed into 12 charities. The winners of the tournament will then pick the charity of their choice. Further all the revenue generated from sponsorships will also go to the charities.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, said “In this difficult period where the world feels more disconnected and distant than ever before, we are extremely proud that, through Gamers Without Borders, our Kingdom will unite and connect the global gaming community in response to Covid-19 and ultimately help save lives.”

As of now from 15th to 17th April The DOTA 2 matches are being held. The official twitter account of Gamers Without Borders tweeted

These are the teams that will be taking part in a single elimination format this weekend.

This I believe is a great initiative to help engage people who are bored and sitting at their homes to simultaneously help the people in need by donating to various charities.
