6 of the most exemplary graffiti plays in CS:Go

CS;:GO graffiti plays

Counter Strike is a game which has been loved since its inception. The competitive versions of the game CS 1.6, CS Source spread the game to even larger audiences. Seeing the success of the game Valve decided to bring a new version of the game in 2012; Counter Strike: Global Offensive. CS:Go had better graphics, better game play and had all the ingredients to make the game even more successful.

Valve on its part to make the game more memorable, have made sure that some of the legendary plays will never be forgotten. Yea, we are talking about the graffiti plays of Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

1. The burning defuse

The first graffiti play in the game belongs to Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer back in 2014. It was ESL: One Cologne 2014 semi-finals with Fnatic facing off aganist Team Digintas (Astralis core of now). The score was tied at 14-14 woth Dignitas managing a bomb plant on B site. The Danes were in a 2 v 4 situation and with numbers running thin on their side,  Nicolai “device” Reedtz threw a molotov on the bomb hoping to cut some more time off the bomb.

But what hapened next was unprecedented. “olofmeister” jumped into the molotov to defuse the bomb. While he was burning on one side he successfully managed to pull off the defuse in time and died right after. The play helped Fnactic take the map 16-14 and they eventually managed to win off the series too.

2. Olofboost

While most of the plays on this list are a result of some incredible plays, this one was a controversial warning embedded. It was DreamHack Winter 2014 with Fnatic facing off against Team LDLC in the quarterfinals. With the series tied at 1-1 and LDLC leading at 13-3 many thought that the game was over.

But Fnatic had one more trick up their sleeve. They boosted “olofmeister” at the top off A site with him having a clear view of monster and the washroom area of the map. LDLC had no clue what was going on and kept felling into the same trap again and again.

Fnatic had warned before the match that they had “crazy stuff” planned for the map but no one knew what was coming. Fnatic managed to overcome the deficit and the take the map. The boost lead to warning sign which again was a tribute to one of the most controversial graffiti play.

The tournament organizers though called for replay of the map citing ‘texture transparency and immortal bug’ issue. Fnatic rebelled the decision and didn’t show up for the game. LDLC progressed into the semis and eventually won the competition.

3. Four AWPs

Fast forward to 2015 and Fnatic were involved in yet another graffiti-esque play. It was the grand finals of ESL One: Cologne 2015 where Fnatic were facing off against EnVyUs . Map 1 was Dust II and the game went into overtime. Fnatic managed to win the first two rounds of their T sides and took the lead 17-15. With funds aplenty, Fnatic bought 4 AWP’s to peek the middle of the map.

While this was unknown to Dan “apEX” Madesclaire, he tried to peek mid to seek some information early into the round. What we witnessed was quite extraordinary, 4 AWP’s were peeking into him which lead to death. Fnatic managed to convert that round too and in due course won the map and the series 2-0.

The tactic was awarded with a graffiti but was removed after Dust II went out of the active map pool.

4. coldzera jumping AWP double.

Consider the situation. You are trailing 9-15 in the first map of the semi finals of MLG Columbus 2016 facing off against crowd favourite Team Liquid. You need something magical to pull off a rabbit out from the hat to have a chance of winning the series. Enter Marcelo “coldzera” David!

“coldzera” and Luminosity Gaming (now MiBR) were in need of something special. And that speical occurred at the B apartments of Mirage. cold first spotted the incoming terrorist and managed to take out the first player easily. What followed was something quite extraordinary. “coldzera” jumped again to seek some more info and spotted the other players. He no-scoped two players in one shot of Liquid while still in mid-air to write history. The play lifted up the morale of the team, with LG winning 10 rounds straight to close out the map 19-15. The won the series and progressed to the finals where they beat Na’Vi to win their first major title.

Oh, also listen to the commentary while seeing the clip. You”ll get chills.

4. s1mple’s no scope

Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev is the best player to ever touch CS:Go so it is logical that he too has a grafiti play on the game. While “s1mple” now plays for Na’Vi there was time when he used to don the Team Liquid jersey.

In the semi finals of ESL One Cologne 2016 Liquid faced Fnatic on Cache. In the penultimate round of the first half, “s1mple” was in a 1v2 situation against the Swedes. He had an AWP in his hands and with the T’s rushing towards the B site of the map, “s1mple” no-scoped both of them. One shot was mid-air while the other shot was at a long distance.

The play was immortalized by Valve and by “s1mple” too as he made a tattoo of the play on his shoulder.

5. King of banana

While this isn’t a direct reference to a particular play, the graffiti pays a tribute to Adam “friberg” Friberg naming the banana part of new Inferno after him.

“frieberg” in his prime was super influential on the Banana part of Inferno and Valve honoured him naming the street Via Adamo.

6. Dosia’s grenade

The PGL Krakow 2017 major final was a match up between two underdogs: Gambit and Immortals.

They faced off on Inferno and Gambit were leading 8-2 on their CT side. In the 11th round, Immortals successfully managed to navigate through the A site and planted the bomb. Gambit were left with two players so they decided to save. Immortal’s player realized the situation and were sitting in the pit waiting for the bomb to detonate. Just as about the bomb was to detonate Mihail “Dosia” Stolyarov threw a grenade in the pit reducing the health of the remaing 3 T’s. And as the bomb detonated , with the reduced health 2 of the 3 Terrorists died of the explosion.

The deaths leaded to a dent in their economy, and put Gambit in a slightly advantageous situation. Gambit won the battle of underdogs to become the first team from the CIS region to win a major title.

The play was so intellectual, Valve added a graffiti of it in the pit area of Inferno.
